We are in the month of August, I want to make the most of summer, its hot days, its long, balmy evenings and the vitality that takes hold of towns and villages at this time of year.
A trip to the Festival in Bastides
My family and I are taking a trip to the Festival en Bastides ! It's a place where laughter fills the squares, where magic and theatre know no bounds! At this event, creativity reigns supreme! The streets are bustling, and it's a true delight to enjoy the shows. We laugh at comedies, marvel at spectacular acrobatics, and tap our feet to the music…
This artistic and friendly atmosphere follows me from villages to fortified towns, from Villefranche through Villeneuve to Najac… Children accompanied by their grandparents have fun, groups of friends meet around a drink, everyone makes up their program for the 6 days of the festival.
Gourmet break at the night market
After a beautiful day in the sun, I'm not stopping there! Summer evenings are the best in our villages! With friends, I'm heading to the Najac night market for a truly enjoyable time together. As soon as I arrive, I follow the music… A band is getting everyone dancing around me, and the aromas wafting from the stalls are tantalizing my taste buds! I want to try everything! From farçous (a type of savory pancake) to aligot sausage and fouace (a type of flatbread), the local producers are making us want to sample their regional specialties ! My choice is made, and my plate is overflowing.
I managed to find a spot near the group playing classic French songs on the accordion. The square was lively, accents were singing, and glasses were clinking! The meal was delicious and plentiful ; I was thinking of having seconds to try the truffade too, but that will have to wait for another time! We chatted with a family sitting across from us and a couple who lived in the village. The friendly atmosphere led us to share anecdotes about village traditions. That's what I love most: these moments of sharing , the pleasure of meeting people and being together!
We continue… Until the end of the night
The evening is far from over! In the neighboring village, everyone is gathering for a festive night filled with good cheer! The village festival committee has set up a long bar and serves us a glass of beer. We quickly join other friends; the dance floor awaits us… This is what I love most: dancing! We let loose on the dance floor, swaying to Latin rhythms, singing traditional songs whose lyrics everyone knows. Time flies…
After the evening, I join my friends at the camp, where we pitched our tents the day before to try to get some sleep, memories and music in my head!
And the next day, we start again!
The sun is rising, so to start the day off right, I head to the village hall at 8:00 a.m. for a traditional breakfast ! Last night was fantastic; I met up with my friends, the village elders, and the festival committee to enjoy the famous tripe . This intergenerational gathering is very common the day after village festivals, a truly unique experience… The atmosphere is always lively, and everyone loves to share stories about their evening, which is usually quite amusing!
