François Rabelais: the portrait of a man who has not often slept peacefully to better defend the freedom of speech and thought so often threatened in his time… and in ours…. - Essaïon Productions & Compagnie Jean-Pierre Andreani
As François Rabelais used to say, "Laughing is the essence of man". If the criterion of a good piece is to teach as well as to cheer up, this one is certainly excellent! The timeless modernity of François Rabelais' gaze focuses on the shortcomings and dangers of stupidity and fanaticism. A topical lesson! The portrait of a man who has not often slept peacefully to better defend the freedom of speech and thought so often threatened in his time… and in ours….
François Rabelais the linguist, an inventor of the French language, an awakener of consciences.
Words invented by the dozens and forged hot, kneaded in the material of dreams, escaped sounds, words of pungent insults, straight out of the broth of books. Word games, rigmarole, allegories and symbols, he forges words, deforms them, combines them. Under his pen, the French language explodes with freedom!
A play that offers us the pleasure of meeting this fugitive who was condemned to be Rabelais and above all of laughing and being dazed by his ability to invent extraordinary words and characters.
The illustration of the fact that laughter is a remedy, a freedom to be preserved, specific to man!
Two actors to play seven characters who reinvent the delightful adventures of Gargantua and Pantagruel. A carousel of characters that provides a comic effect.
