Penne

Château de Penne

The Forteresse de Penne, perched on a rocky spur in Occitanie, is a 13th-century medieval castle offering spectacular views and an immersive journey through the history of the Middle Ages thanks to its activities and authentic restoration.

Medieval fortress from the 13th century, classified Historical Monument in 1902 and bought in 2006 by two architects, the site of the Château de Penne is undergoing a complete renaissance!

Come and browse the open-air remains and walk in the footsteps of the soldiers who lived here more than 700 years ago as they stormed the fortress.

You will discover the history and architecture of the site as well as life in the Middle Ages through a fun and informative tour.

Guided tours et workshops. in spring and autumn, medieval animations from mid-July to mid-August (restoration work, participatory workshops, dramatized visits, etc.), Heritage Days,… So many events that will complement the independent visit of the fortress and will allow you to discover the site in a different way.

Le landscaped path, open to visitors since the end of 2023, allows a walk of around 20 minutes on the mounds around the fortress to discover the archaeological excavation areas as well as the endemic flora of the site.

Since 2024, a new museum space has been open in the heart of the fortress. It presents:

  • Medieval objects and furniture (including several artifacts discovered during excavations on the site),

  • Architectural models illustrating the evolution of the fortress over the centuries,

  • Le documentary film “Story of a Passion”, tracing the history of the site from its first occupations to contemporary restorations.
