Want to spread some happiness? Here is THE plum jam recipe which transforms simple fruits into pure homemade delicacies!
Ingredients
- 1 kg of plums
- 750 g sugar
- 1 gousse de vanille
Prep time
- Give the plums a little makeover: rinse them as if they were going to a ball, stone them (gently, we're not brutes) and cut them into pieces until you have 1 kg of beautiful, ready-made fruit.
- Prepare the magic potion: in a saucepan, mix one glass of water per kilo of sugar. Heat until you get a bubbling and joyful syrup. Let him dance for a while (but keep an eye on him, he is the fiery type).
- Plum dip: throw the plums and vanilla pod pieces into the boiling syrup. Now, it's the big bath! Let them boil for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring constantly (imagine you're a DJ mixing the summer hit).
- Last touch and final in the jar: skim off the foam (the little cloud on top) and, hop, into the jars! Close them well, turn them upside down for the “hot flash” and let them cool.
And there you have it, the plum jam is ready to make people happy!
How is plum jam a specialty of Aveyron?
We're not fooling you... Plum jam is a classic in many French departments, and not just in Aveyron! But then why is it one of our specialties? 3 reasons 👇
- Plum trees in great shape
Aveyron, with its top climate, is full of greengages, mirabelles and ente plums. Result: at the end of summer, it's the plum festival! Rather than letting the fruit rot, the Aveyronnais had the idea of transforming it into jam (here, nothing is lost, everything is transformed!)
- A grandmother's know-how
As they say, here, we don't throw anything away! Aveyron farms have always transformed excess fruit into jam. Copper pot, slow cooking, and presto! A sweet potion to last through the winter. Each family has its secret recipe, often jealously guarded.
- A local treasure
Today, it can be found in markets and local shops, proudly sold by local artisans. With its “homemade” taste, it delights gourmets on bread, pancakes or fouaces Aveyron. We also like it with cheese!
In short: lots of plums, resourceful grannies and a love of good taste! That's why plum jam is a Aveyron pride.
