Description
In the first months of 1944, the small (private) barns all around served as a refuge and rear base for the resistance fighters of the Ambeyrac Maquis.
Short circuit lasting approximately 2 hours: it is currently being marked with yellow PR type signs by the Ambeyrac town hall. The yellow signposts are already in place. Follow Circuit No. 1 “Les Tioulières”.
Your itinerary
Step 1: Departure in front of Ambeyrac Town Hall
Opposite the town hall, take the road on the right that goes up, Cap del Mas. Pass a first wash house on your left, the grocery store on your right, then another wash house on your left until you reach a calvary (iron cross). At this point, take the small path on the left that goes up. Reach the same road again, route del Cap del Mas, cross it and take the small path opposite that goes up. On a yellow sign it is noted: Circuit N°1 "Les Tioulières" 1 km. Follow these signs all along your circuit. You are on the path called La Côte vieille.
Step 2: Take the small path on the left that goes up
Continue climbing. Reach the forest. Pass between low walls. On your right, a ruined barn. A few meters further on, to the right, a gariotte. Arriving at an intersection, take the path opposite. Do not turn right onto the path that leads to a ruin. Continue straight ahead. In the woods, on the right, a hunter's cabin. At the intersection of four paths, take the opposite path. Another intersection, do not take the first intersection on the left (a field) but the next one, a path between low walls. Pass in front of a black iron gate. In the distance is Monstalès. Straight ahead. Another gate. Continue to the intersection.
Step 3: Turn left
At this intersection with a wide track (red earth), turn left into the woods. A further path goes off to the left into the woods, but turn slightly right to continue on this wide track through the oak woods.
Arriving at an intersection on a new track. Opposite a field, do not take the track on the right. Turn left. You will remain on this main track for 2 km, after a small right turn and then a small left turn. Always straight. Do not take the side paths. On your right is a barn ruin called the burnt barn.
Step 4: Return to the village
From this barn, do not turn left onto the path that leads to a barn, continue straight ahead towards Ambeyrac. You are on a road that gradually descends towards Ambeyrac. On your right are viewpoints over the valley and the Larroque Toirac castle. After the 90° turn to the left, take the very small path that descends on your right to avoid the road. Find the hairpin road below. Cross it and continue on the narrow path that descends opposite. You will arrive at another path on the right; it leads to the Calvary at the start. At the road, turn right. Return to the start by the same route.
