Description
4000 years of history, beliefs, tales, legends... From those ancient times when our ancestors invented the modern world, these immutable vestiges of human passion bear witness. Heavy blocks weighing several tons, mysterious burials in the shade of large oaks, the dolmens have survived the centuries and stand out as evidence of their incomparable majesty.
This circuit was created and marked with wooden arrows painted blue by the municipality of Foissac.
Your itinerary
Step 1: Departure from the center of the village of Foissac
From the village hall car park (with the village halls behind you), take the road on the right. Walk along the road, the D87, for 1 km. Leave the first two road intersections on your right, then leave the next two intersections on your left. After the road that goes off to the left towards the cave, continue straight on for 2 m, take the path surrounded by low walls on the left and enter the woods. You will see two remains of dolmens with small lying slabs (Jonade 2 and 200), and a small hut. Cross the woods for 2 m.
Step 2: In the oak woods
Follow the D87 to the left for about 450 m, take the small path on the right (Y-shaped intersection) and cross the meadows of the Causse to the dolmen of Cloup de Rhines (right and left supports visible). Take the path on the right following the markings, pass between the trees (passage between wires), follow the path for 200 m, then turn left into the oak woods. Straight ahead, 2 dolmens, one of which is extremely well preserved. Follow the arrows to continue to the 2 caselles (on your right the bottom slab of a dolmen).
Step 3: From step to caselles
To admire the huts, one of which is extremely well preserved, go left between the protected fence wires. Return to the original path and continue into the woods. The path climbs, you can, by taking the path on the left (do a round trip) to go and see another hut. A few meters further, turn right and follow the dirt road which will lead you to a wide limestone path.
Step 4: Return to starting point
To continue the route, turn left and go up the path to the road at Mas de Pâle, then turn right to reach the place called Jonade. Turn left onto the D87 (same road as on the outward journey) and stay on this road to return to your starting point, the car park in the centre of the village of Foissac.
