Villefranche-de-Rouergue

Site du Calvaire

Exceptional site whose origin is a protohistoric enclosure of 8ha which welcomed animals and inhabitants.

Gallic oppidum with double enclosure. Castellum after Caesar's conquest on the Roman road. View of the Bastide of Villefranche de Rouergue and its surroundings.

Church of St Jean Baptiste which was the first parish of Villefranche de Rouergue in 1281 until 1301. Building dating back to 767. Chapel of St Sepulcher built in 1715 by the Pénitents Bleus demolished during the Revolution and rebuilt in 1807 by the Black Penitents. Access by the Roman way, orientation table allowing to discover an impregnable view on the bastide, and on the historical buildings of the region until the end of Quercy!

An idea for a walk from Villefranche to have a magnificent view of the Bastide (approx. 20 min to get there) by the Roman road.
