About

Enter a medieval residence, completely renovated with contemporary fittings and discover a unique educational trail in the heart of the castral town of Najac: a unique experience to share!

Centre d'Interprétation de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine (CIAP) du Pays d'art et d'histoire des Bastides du Rouergue, la Maison du Gouverneur vous accueille au plein coeur du bourg castral de Najac.

Gateway to the old castral village, home of a family of merchants in the Middle Ages, then presumed residence of the governor of Rouergue, the building today welcomes, over 450m², all the public to discover the rich heritage of the Country of art and history of the Bastides of Rouergue

Passing through the discovery of Villefranche-de-Rouergue, Sauveterre-de-Rouergue, La Bastide L'Évêque you will understand everything about the bastides, this breathtaking urban phenomenon which has spread for more than a century in Occitania and whose 13th century was the most prosperous period.

Najac, Villeneuve d'Aveyron, Rieupeyroux, bourg castral and Sautés adapted during these years and applied the urban principles of the bastide to their topography... thus creating medieval towns and villages with a unique and fascinating history...

With family, friends, alone or with others, let yourself be told the story of this territory by following a fun and interactive course!

For information, direct access to the Governor's House is not possible by car (narrow streets in the town center of Najac) parking spaces are available to visitors on the outskirts of the village.

The health protocol in place allows you to visit the premises in complete safety.
