Office de Tourisme Ouest Aveyron – Bureau de Villeneuve

Villeneuve reception office, coupled with the reception of the Galerie Jean-Marie Périer.

Villeneuve, rescued in the XNUMXth century then bastide in the XNUMXth century located west of Aveyron, near Lot, Tarn et Garonne and Tarn. A village on the Causse.

Sauveté, founded in 1053, Villeneuve has a Romanesque church, in the shape of a Greek cross, a copy of the original sanctuary of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem. In 1231, Count Raymond VII of Toulouse granted it municipal freedoms and the status of Bastide. The city, managed by 4 consuls, became a prosperous market. The Gothic part of the church (13th century) is adorned with 14th century murals depicting scenes from the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, including the famous legend of the hanged man. Two guard towers, a covered square, a network of cobbled streets introduce the visitor to an intact medieval city.
