Day 1: arrival in Conques
Welcome to Conques, one of the four Most Beautiful Villages of France that you will discover during your stay.
Arrive late morning or early afternoon to visit Sainte-Foy abbey church, you can admire its famous tympanum of the Last Judgment and its modern stained glass windows created by Pierre Soulages.
Day 2: from Conques to Cransac – 25 km
You set off on an adventure with the walkers who are following the Puy route towards Cahors for the first 14 kilometres. Just after Prayssac, the paths fork and it's time to change direction! You then board the GR 62B, direction the old ones mining towns of Firmi and Cransac. You arrive in the spa town of Cransac, also known as Cransac-les-Thermes, whose heritage is marked by the industrial past of the region.
Day 3: from Cransac to Peyrusse-le-Roc – 27 km
After saying goodbye to Cransac, you head towards the Montbazens plateau, cross Valzergues, and end up setting eyes on the superb medieval city of Peyrusse-le-Roc. A gem that still has surprises in store for you: below, nestled in a wild and green setting, stand proudly the two towers of the castle lower on the rock of Thaluc.
Day 4: from Peyrusse-le-Roc to Villefranche de Rouergue – 25 km
Immerse yourself in the varied and enchanting landscapes of the Diège valley, before climbing the Causse of Villeneuve. Here, the bocage fields intertwine with pretty dry stone walls. Halfway, let yourself be charmed by Villeneuve d'Aveyron and its pretty alleys. It is also the second Most Beautiful Village in France on your route. To end this beautiful day, head to Villefranche-de-Rouergue, another emblematic fortified town where you will stop this evening. A day that combines nature, heritage and medieval atmosphere!
Day 5: from Villefranche de Rouergue to Najac – 25 km
Goodbye GR 62B! Leaving Villefranche-de-Rouergue, you embark on the GR 36, heading for a guaranteed change of scenery in the heart of the spectacular gorges of the Aveyron. On the way, a break is essential in the charming village of Monteils, before arriving at Najac, your stop for the day. Here, take the time to explore this incredible medieval fortress perched proudly on its promontory, offering a breathtaking view of the gorges. A day where adventure and history intertwine!
Day 6: from Najac to Cordes-sur-Ciel – 28km
To start this last day, follow the banks of the Aveyron to Laguépie, where the Aveyron meets the Viaur in beautiful harmony. Then, head for Cordes-sur-Ciel, a true Gothic jewel suspended between earth and sky. This enchanting village, a haven of inspiration, attracts many artists who live and create there year-round. A stopover that combines poetry, history and breathtaking landscapes!
