Description
This short circuit around the picturesque hamlets of Martiel makes you discover the heritage of the causse between caselles, fountains and wells.
Your itinerary
Stage 1: Departure from the town of Martiel
Departure from the center with a view of the tower. In the uphill direction, pass in front of the village hall then after 200 m, turn left and join the RD911. At the pedestrian crossing, cross the RD911 and follow it for 400 meters towards Villefranche. Just after the car garage, leave the RD by turning slightly to the left and follow the path lined with hedges straight to its end for about 1 km. For a section of a few dozen meters, you will follow the tarmac road in the same direction then at the first sharp bend, take the path in front of you to the left of the tarmac road.
Step 2: Head towards Massar and the fountains
At the end of this path, you will find a road. Turn left towards Massar. After 50 meters to the right of this path, you can visit the Quillou fountain. Then take the road back to Lake Massar. Turn right to cross the lake dike. At its exit, there are two wells. Continue and cross the hamlet of Massar, which is made up of beautiful stone buildings (in Massar, turn left). At the crossroads (crow's foot) as you leave Massar, take the RD towards Martiel for about 2 meters to discover the Pleyjean fountain.
Step 3: From the Pleyjean Fountain
Retrace your steps for about 50m (towards Villeneuve). Take the path on the left towards the hamlet of Mathet. In the center, take the path on the left which leads to Pleyjean. From there, turn right towards Pierrat. From there, turn left towards Calmels. After about 300m on this road, turn right. Cross Calmels and follow the path towards Martiel until you reach the RD911. Turn left onto the RD911, passing the bakery. Take the first road on the right before the post office building. After 1m, turn right, follow the alleys, turning right. You will arrive at a more open area with a small warehouse.
Stage 4: Towards the Miquelie washhouse and return to Martiel
Continue on your way then take the alley on the left. You are entering the Régis housing estate. Cross the Régis housing estate towards its lowest part, then, at its exit, turn right and go down and cross the Miquélie bridge. At the end of the bridge, turn left to reach Salelles. Turn left again and cross the Salelles bridge. Immediately after leaving this bridge, take the path on the left passing near the well and the Miquélie washhouse. At the end of this path, turn right and go straight up to the village of Martiel with a view of a well, the church, the porch and the fort.
