Description
Explore the Suc de Rulhe, which offers a magnificent view of the Lot Valley and its cliffs, including the Roc de Médal. It's also an ideal birdwatching spot. With a little luck, you might spot peregrine falcons, jackdaws, and other endemic or migratory birds. Enjoy a view of the Flancou Valley and a stroll through an oak forest.
This circuit lasts approximately 3 hours; "From the valley to the causse". The yellow signs are positioned. Follow the "From the valley to the causse" circuit, variant V2.
Your itinerary
Step 1: Departure from the center of the village of Ambeyrac
Go past the church, leave the town hall on the left, turn right. At the intersection, turn right towards Cajarc. Turn left onto 'rue de la Fargue' which goes downhill. Follow this road. Do not take the dead end, continue straight ahead. Return to the D127 road. Walk left to the old sawmill and turn left onto chemin des Fontanelles. Walk along the Le Flancou stream. The road becomes a track. Straight ahead. Continue on the same track which turns slightly to the right and leads to a bridge. Cross Le Flancou. Climb 'le Coustel', a bit steep for 1.2 km.
Step 2: Arrival at the heights of the causse
At the top, take the path on the right. At the end, take the road on the left. At the Calvary, turn right onto Chemin du Mas Vieil Haut. Continue straight ahead to the intersection, ignoring the path on the left, take the track opposite. After 300 m, at the intersection, turn right onto the track alongside a large meadow. You will reach an intersection of 4 wide tracks. Turn right towards "Variante Suc de Rulhe" V2. At the road, continue straight ahead. You are at "La Garrigue". Straight ahead. At the intersection, turn right. Continue towards the garbage cans. 100 m later, there is an iron Calvary on the left.
Step 3: At the Calvary, head towards Suc de Rulhe
Take the path that climbs in front of the Calvary. The single-track trail winds through the undergrowth. Follow the main trail. You'll arrive at an open area with a view of the Lot Valley and the Saut de la Mounine. In the undergrowth, follow the main trail. Go around the cell tower on the left. Go straight ahead. On the right, there's a campsite. At the road, turn right. Reach the hamlet of Le Cayrol. Take the first path on the right. On the right, there's a spring topped by a stone building. The path narrows and becomes a stony path descending towards the valley.
Stage 4: Descent to Camboulan and return to Ambeyrac
Be careful, at the intersection of two small paths, take the one that descends to the left. Beautiful views of the Saut de la Mounine and its cliffs. Reach a wide track that runs alongside orchards. At the intersection with a calvary, continue straight. You are on a road. At the next intersection, turn right to reach Camboulan. Pass in front of the castle, in front of the church. Continue straight on this road, the D2 which runs along the valley for 127 km to Ambeyrac. Arrive at the village in front of you. Return to the road you took at the start. Go back up towards the church.
