Description
Hiking to discover Morlhon le Haut and its many attractions: the Doulouze stream, the forest, the Perié bridge, the Ségala plateau, the lake and its leisure area.
The route will first take you through meadows before following the shaded banks of the Doulouze River. Gaining a little elevation, you'll enjoy lovely views of the surrounding countryside and the village. Along the way, you might encounter some grazing cows; agriculture is still very much alive here, and farms are an integral part of the local landscape.
This route is offered by the Morlhon le Haut town hall. It is not currently marked. Please read the stage descriptions carefully or download the GPX track.
Your itinerary
Step 1: Departure from the parking lot of the leisure area at Lake Morlhon le Haut
The hike begins at the base of Lake Morlhon-le-Haut. Follow the yellow markers for trail #2, which starts at the top next to the road. Take the path that climbs towards Morlhon-le-Haut for 30 meters, then after the "Hunters' Lodge," turn left onto the road. You'll pass a farm called "Le Pré Grand" (on the left). Continue along the road. At the first intersection, turn right onto the dirt track "Chemin d'Espagne," which climbs uphill. At the first intersection, turn right onto the road, then at the next intersection, take the road straight ahead onto Chemin du Fau.
Stage 2: Towards Morlhon le Bas and the Perié bridge
Turn left onto Impasse de l'Estang Roux, then right, cross the stream, and continue uphill to the track. Turn left onto it. Further on, take the path that descends to the left. At Morlhon-le-Bas, turn left, then take the first path on the right after the barn. Continue straight ahead for 1 km on this path, which leads to the Périé bridge. At the hamlet of Le Périé, take the path that descends to the right. Cross the bridge, turn right, and a few meters further on, take the first path that climbs to the left, not the one on the right. Stay on the main path. You will reach a road. Take it to your left.
Stage 3: From the banks of the Doulouze to the panoramic views of the Ségala
At a hairpin bend, leave the road and take the track that climbs to the right. At the first intersection, continue straight ahead. Further on, at the next intersection, take the second wide track on the right. It climbs alongside the Doulouze River at first. Stay on this track. Make a short detour to the left to see the viewpoint overlooking Morlhon-le-Haut. You will arrive at a road in the hamlet of Bannes. Go through it. On your left, there are more viewpoints overlooking Morlhon. Rejoin the Marmont road. Turn left onto it. Leave the road and continue along the left side of the lake. Cross the wooden footbridge. Return to the parking area.
