Description

This route will take you to Villefranche de Rouergue, passing through Monteils, a charming village in the heart of the Aveyron valley.

Possibility of access from the Najac SNCF station or that of Villefranche de Rouergue.
You can do the complete loop or choose to go there by train and return by bike, for example.
Monday to Friday, 6 trains per day.
Direct train between Villefranche and Najac.

Getting to the starting point to report a problem

Step 1: Departure from the top of Najac to reach Monteils.

You can park at Place du Faubourg or Place du Sol del Barry. Take the road that descends, the D39, towards the Parisot Castanet nature base. Go down to the Frégère bridge, cross the Aveyron. At the end of the bridge, turn left then take the second road that climbs on your right, towards "Monteils". This road climbs steadily in bends. You are on the D149. At the intersection, do not go straight to Celles Basses; take the D47 on the right towards Monteils until you reach this village.

Stage 2: Departure from Monteils to reach Villefranche via the right bank

By Monteils, you've already traveled more than 10 km. Continue on the D47 to reach Villefranche-de-Rouergue. Follow the road signs to this town, then head toward the town center to visit the historic center of this former Rouergue fortified town. Several monument visits are possible.

Step 3: Leave Villefranche de Rouergue towards Les Pesquiés

At Villefranche-de-Rouergue, you have traveled 22 km. Cross the Aveyron by taking the new bridge, then at the Place de la République, turn right onto Rue de la Peyrade. Cross the railway line and take Avenue du Caylet opposite. Pass in front of the Chartreuse Saint Sauveur hospital. Continue straight on this same road. You are on the D922. Continue towards Najac, Sanvensa. On the way up, on your right you will see a sign for "Les Pesquiés." Take this road to the center of the hamlet and the Saint Clair church.

Stage 4: From Pesquiés to Monteils on the left bank

From the church, at the intersection, take the first right, then the first left, then right again. You are on the Chemin de la Boutonnerie. Cross the railway line. Stay on this road, follow the railway line until you cross it again. When you reach the hamlet of "Les Millets," take the Chemin de Lafage opposite. Pass the old Monteils train station. Already 1 km. Arrive at an intersection with a bridge over the Aveyron. Possibility of continuing the route opposite or taking a break in the heart of the village, located on the right by crossing the bridge.

Step 5: Leave the banks of the Aveyron to reach Najac via the plateau

Leave Monteils on your right. Continue on the D638 towards La Fouillade.
Passing next to a quarry then going up to the artisanal area of La Fouillade.
This climb is very steep and may remind you of a mountain road with its many bends.
Arriving at La Fouillade, turn right onto the D339.
Continue on this road which will take you directly to the village of Najac on the Sol del Barry square side.
