About us

An exceptional family residence, this richly furnished medieval castle gave Toulouse-Lautrec the assets to become one of the most famous painters of the XNUMXth century. The artist is still present there through drawings, posters and lithographs.

Former keep built by Bérenger du Bosc in 1180, it became a medieval fortress with moats and drawbridges, pepperbox towers, arrow slits and cannons, until the painter's grandmother, Countess Raymond de Toulouse-Lautrec born Gabrielle d'Imbert du Bosc, transformed in the middle of the XNUMXth century , the austere defense castle in one welcoming family home, while retaining the Renaissance parts of the building.

Although dead in 1901, the artist is still there through a set of children's drawings, personal objects, posters, lithographs and photographs. This family castle is also rich in memories, like the measuring rod which measured all the members of the family from 1850.

The guided tours tell you about the life of his ancestors, nobility of the sword all officers in the King's armies, the memories of the painter's youth and his holidays at Le Bosc until 1900.

The monument houses splendid Aubusson tapestries from the XNUMXth century, which retrace the exploits of Alexander the Great, as well as XNUMXth century greenery and grisailles by Sauvage, painter to the Court of Marie-Antoinette.

The castle is listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments.

In 2003, his pleasure garden has been registered with theGeneral inventory of cultural heritage : it presents in particular two remarkable species of Aveyron that you can discover while strolling in the park.
