Eric Lowen's lecture
Why do we help others? Is altruism a moral quality inherent to human beings, or is it merely wishful thinking or an illusion? Between selfless generosity, solidarity, empathy, cooperation, and… self-interest, this lecture explores one of the most fascinating behaviors of our species. Drawing on philosophy, biology, psychology, and anthropology, Éric Lowen examines the origins of altruism, its mechanisms, and its limitations. A stimulating discussion!
Éric Lowen is a philosopher, lecturer, and director of the Popular University of Philosophy in Toulouse. For many years, he has led lecture series devoted to major contemporary intellectual issues: ethics, freedom, religions, anthropology, our relationship with nature, and the place of humankind in the world. His approach is that of a practical and civic philosophy, capable of providing answers to both fundamental existential problems and societal issues.
