Francis Eustache's lecture

Memory shapes our recollections, our knowledge, and our identity. How does it work, what is its role? What memories can the human brain construct from terrifying events such as a bombing or a terrorist attack? While collective memory clearly incorporates individual narratives, how, in turn, is each person's memory shaped by the collective narrative? Francis Eustache offers us a fresh perspective on what is not merely a commemoration of the past but a memory, ever-present within each of us.

Francis Eustache is Professor of Psychology and Director of Studies at the École Pratique des Hautes Études (EPHE) at the University of Caen-Normandie. He is a leading figure in neuropsychology in France. His work focuses on human memory and its disorders, explored through the methods of psychology and brain imaging, particularly in patients with Alzheimer's disease or post-traumatic stress disorder. He works in conjunction with the Caen Memorial of the Second World War. Among other distinctions, he is a recipient of the France Alzheimer Prize.
