Lecture by Emmanuel Lincot
In Asia, China and India stand face to face. Two continental states of considerable political, economic, and military power, competing on all fronts; two millennia-old civilizations, confronted with the challenges of the 21st century, whose relationship and future clashes will decisively shape the world's future. From the Tibetan plateau to the banks of the Ganges, from Buddhist monasteries to modern capitals, what exchanges, rivalries, cross-influences, and numerous conflicts have forged this unique geopolitical duo whose destiny concerns us all? What is this "war of the worlds" that supposedly pits India against China, whose political systems are so different?
A renowned specialist in the political and cultural history of contemporary China, Emmanuel Lincot is a Professor at the Catholic Institute of Paris (ICP) and a Research Director at IRIS. His academic and professional career is impressive; a historian and sinologist, he is a sought-after expert for the preparation of official trips to Asia. Emmanuel Lincot is particularly interested in "cultural diplomacy" and the relationship between art and power. He is a frequent commentator in the media and the author of several books, including * China-India: The War of Worlds* (Éditions du Cerf), published in February 26.
