Conference by Roland LEHOUCQ, on the theme of cosmic travel

Space travel is one of the favorite themes of science fiction. Some films, like Star Wars or Avatar, feature fabulous or more plausible spaceships that allow us to travel from one planet to another. All of them inspire dreams, even if we sense that interstellar travel is not for tomorrow. So, what about hyperspace, a kind of space-time shortcut? What is antimatter? And antigravity? What, fundamentally, is preventing us from exploring the cosmos? Roland Lehoucq will offer a scientific, critical, and astonishing perspective.

Roland LEHOUCQ is an astrophysicist at the CEA Saclay Institute for Research on the Fundamental Laws of the Universe. He teaches at Sciences Po Paris (Le Havre campus) and at the “Social Approach to Energy Issues” master’s program at Université Paris-Cité. He has published numerous works and writes a scientific column for the science fiction journal Bifrost. He is president of the international science fiction festival “Les Utopiales”. The asteroid (31387) LEHOUCQ bears his name in tribute to his involvement in the dissemination and sharing of knowledge.
