UN FANTÔME NE SE MONTRE JAMAIS NU, dessins de Anthea Lubat et films de Cécile Dumas

Cécile Dumas makes short films, rather narrative and fragmentary in form. In each of her productions, we are given a fragment of a larger story, of which we know neither the ins nor the outs. Each of us is free, in these few minutes, to seize the clues scattered here and there, and then imagine our own story. These are often seemingly banal situations, without any particular relief, but a sentence, a shot, an expression changes the course of the story and takes us to a more unstable and singular elsewhere.

In Anthea Lubat's work, combinations of shapes, textures, and colors are brought together on the page or directly on the wall. These compositions are incredibly precise, and can be grasped at a quick glance, but their complexity only reveals itself after spending long minutes with them, getting as close as possible to the image to discover its subtleties and variations. Nothing is immediately revealed to us, and the richness of her works only becomes apparent after a more in-depth study, revealing a veritable constellation of elements that confront, collide, and respond to one another.
