Théâtre : "Femme non rééducable"
Matrioshka Productions
Who was this woman deemed beyond rehabilitation by the Russian authorities? Her name was Anna Politkovskaya, and she worked as a journalist in her country: Russia. She notably covered the Chechen war and denounced its atrocities. But the search for truth disturbs authoritarian governments, and she was shot dead in front of her home in 2006.
Based on his notes, writings, and interviews, the internationally renowned author Stefano Massini wrote this play, performed by Caroline Rochefort (Molière-nominated for her performance in Change the water in the flowers and Pierre Berçot; the former embodying Anna and the latter representing the various interviewees and the narrator. Tadriana Hocking's staging aims to make this journalist, committed to the end, a universal voice.
Such a spectacle is a valuable opportunity in this age of fake news and the influence of social media, which is quick to distort reality. It allows us to reflect on the importance of a genuine press that must be free to provide us with information from verifiable sources and that defends democratic values.
"This show shakes things up and awakens consciences. We really need it" (L'Œil d'Olivier).
Seen at the Avignon Festival in 2024.
