Beaulieu Abbey is a former Cistercian abbey founded in the 12th century, boasting a simple yet elegant architecture. Nestled in the Seye Valley, it now houses a collection of modern art bequeathed by a passionate couple of collectors: Pierre Brache and Geneviève Bonnefoi. Abandoned by the monks during the French Revolution and neglected by subsequent owners, it was revived in the 1960s thanks to the couple's restoration efforts, who envisioned their abstract art collection displayed within this setting. Today managed by the Centre des Monuments Nationaux (National Monuments Centre), the abbey is a haven of peace where modern art engages in a dialogue with the architecture, and where the garden of a thousand roses invites leisurely strolls and moments of contemplation.
