Paying attention to all things, precise lines constantly worked, dissected, repeated tirelessly. But also shapes, bodies, colors, formats in excess... The work of René Caussanel invites both contemplation and introspection.

"My work is inspired by nature and ancient traditions such as that of the "palissystes". I create my earthenware using different techniques such as the use of prints, molding (in plaster only), modeling and stamping. I also sometimes add relief decoration to already turned vases. The fantastic characters such as busts or "fountain heads" decorated with shells come from an imagination where pieces of Renaissance cave sculptures would have crossed time... More recently, I have created sculptures and trompe-l'oeil from everyday objects; accumulations of waste and food leftovers such as bones or eggshells, peelings which question our lifestyles but often from a playful angle..."
