To mark the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between France and Korea, the Champollion Museum – Writings of the World in Figeac and the National Museum of World Writing Systems in Incheon are joining forces to showcase Korean culture through its relationship to writing and in particular the invention of its script, Hangeul.
Created in 1443 by King Sejong to facilitate literacy among his people, Hangeul is one of the few writing systems whose origins and implementation are perfectly documented. By delving into Korean culture during the Koryo and Joseon periods and exploring contemporary culture where Hangeul is so prevalent, the exhibition, endorsed by the Embassy of South Korea, places us at the origins of one of the greatest revolutions in the country's history.
In collaboration with the National Museum of World Writing Systems
