For over thirty years, Yann Arthus-Bertrand has captured the French people in their most authentic reality through his lens. Far from stereotypical images, he photographs living faces, human stories, individuals in all their uniqueness. Faces we pass every day without really seeing them, and yet they seem familiar, thanks to a look, a posture, a smile. Faces and lives that this humanist and committed photographer, known worldwide for Earth from Above, wanted to bring together in the same frame, under the same light, on the same ordinary burlap canvas that has become legendary; a canvas that levels the playing field and magnifies differences.
Since 2023, a mobile photo studio had been crisscrossing France for two years, traveling through towns and villages. In October 2024, thanks to the initiative of the Lycée Beauregard and the town of Villefranche-de-Rouergue, the photographer and his team set up their legendary photo studio in the Augustinian Church. For four days, more than 800 residents were photographed in this unexpected location. Each day, the studio transformed into a small theater of everyday life. Residents, friends, neighbors, family members, athletes, craftspeople, entrepreneurs, farmers, and association volunteers all gathered there with joy and smiles.

The exhibition features photographs taken throughout France, including some from Villefranche-de-Rouergue. You'll also discover the behind-the-scenes story of this project through the eyes of photographer Sylvie Bosc. These glimpses into the heart of this deeply human endeavor.
