In a society managed by men where women's speech has long been reduced to the domestic world, writing appears as a means of transgression and a vector of emancipation.

Language is not neutral, it allows for self-affirmation. Writing is thus one of the important elements in the fight for women's rights. The use of writing in art by women artists is, therefore, not trivial and reflects a number of questions and struggles that go well beyond feminism.

Through the works of 23 artists of different nationalities, including Annette Messager, Sophie Calle, Jenny Holzer, Nil Yalter, Vera Molnar and the Guerilla girls, the “Script Girls” exhibition questions the gesture of writing in contemporary creation women artists from the 70s to today.

The exhibition also extends into the permanent exhibition of the museum by asking questions about the place of women in relation to the history of Scripture. The works presented thus echo the permanent collections and the subjects addressed by the museum (the birth of writing, the development of alphabets, the history of the book, Man's relationship with writing, etc.).
