Concert « Autour de la sonate Arpeggione de Schubert »
“Around Schubert’s Arpeggione sonata” Franz Schubert
Jeanne Mathieu, viola
Alain Roudier and Ekaterina Polyakova, Steingraeber D232 piano from Château de Bournazel
The Arpeggione is an experimental instrument created around 1820. Derived from the guitar, it
is played with a bow, like a cello. Inconvenient to use, it does not have
convinced neither the performers nor the composers and it was very quickly abandoned.
only work was composed for him (but a masterpiece!), by
Franz Schubert, in 1824.
Of this famous sonata, which will be played here on the viola, there is another version,
for piano four hands, previously unpublished. It will be presented at our concert,
as well as the sublime Fantasy in F minor for piano four hands.
