In 1850, the French government adopted a law establishing agricultural penal colonies (Reeducation Houses). The Pezet estate, one of the 70 establishments opened in France, illustrates the failure of this philanthropic idea which turned out to be real mistreatment... The current owner of the place looks back on this episode in our history.
